Living Jesus’ Purpose and Mission for Your Life

Living Jesus’ Purpose and Mission for Your Life

Why am I here? What is my Purpose?

At some point, we all wonder, “Why am I here? What is my purpose?”

As Jesus followers, we know the most important, foundational reasons we are here:

“To know God, Experience His Life, and Live His Purposes;” this brings glory to Him and benefit to the people we are called to serve.

But many wonderful people are not really certain as to what their specific calling is. They wonder if they are really doing what God put them here to do or they are settling for something that is not on target.

Their work is not fulfilling or they endure it, rather than are energized by it. They sense they are not fully utilizing the gifts and passions God has place and developed in them.

OR, if they do have a clear vision of God’s purposes, they are stuck, they don’t really know how to turn those God dreams into reality.

How do I know God’s purposes for my life?

We totally get it. We’ve had seasons where we knew for certain what mission God wanted us to focus on and we gave ourselves completely to it.

Then we’ve had times where it was hard to see the vision. Praying, “Father, we’re willing to do whatever it You want; just make it clear,” and get silence or a mishmash of ideas.

Through the years we’ve seen some principles and steps that:

  • Give strong clarity regarding God’s personal purpose for our lives

  • Show us how to cooperate with God in accomplishing those purposes.

Right before He went to the cross, in what is known as His “High Priestly Prayer”, Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.” (John 17:3-4):

Glorify God by Fulfilling His Purposes for Your Life

Eternal life is knowing God. Out of that relationship we are called to follow Jesus’ example of glorifying God by accomplishing the work which He has given us to do.

  • 2 Timothy 1:9 tells us that out of His grace, before He created the world, God made purposes and plans for each one of us

  • Ephesians 2:10 says that “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

Our fallen world system tries to either convince us that we are just an accident of nature and it really doesn’t matter if we are here or not. Or, to get us to pursue things that are not in line with God’s plans and purposes.

But the Bible almost shouts to us, “God Almighty took the time and effort to make meaningful, impactful, fulfilling purposes and plans for every single one of us.” We are His very own workmanship or hand-crafted work of art, specifically designed by a God who is love to do important work.

Here’s what we’ve come to see:

We will not know everything God is up to in our lives; He doesn’t give us a complete picture of what our lives will be like and what we’ll do decades from now. We will not know or understand everything going on in our lives, so we’ll always need to prioritize trusting Him more than knowing everything.

However, He does want to show us what He wants us to do during each phase of our journey. We can’t focus our energy on His purposes and plans unless we know what those purposes and plans are FOR THAT SEASON of life.

God’s plans for us are seasonal. They don’t stay the same forever. And He desires to give us clarity for each of those seasons.

When we KNOW what God wants us to do, it changes so much. Faith grows stronger because we realize if God wants us to do it, He will work with us to make it happen. Our energy levels increase because we’re doing what God designed us to do. We get happier, experience more personal fulfillment, and we realize we are doing something that matters both now and in eternity.

We get to do our part in Jesus’ mission of bringing God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Through our unique gifts, personality, experiences, and passions we can play an important role in the greatest cause of all time.

Whether it’s starting businesses or teaching in school or writing books or music or playing sports or research or leading or organizing….all of it matters. All of it can bring glory to God, help people, and give us that sense of fulfillment that comes only from know God and doing what He put us here to do.

Some of our materials are designed to help you do those two things: know His will and purposes and accomplish those God plans.
